The Magical Way To Start Your Weekend.

Friday evening in France - brought to you by TRW&S. We've got a serious bunch of reds in the works but first, let's shake the week off with a touch of bubbly, non?

Comte de Gascogne Sparkling $12

This is a new wine for us that we can't keep on the shelf. From France's Atlantic coast comes this lyrical Blancs de Blancs. 100% Chardonnay, vinted in Methode Champenoise, crisp citrus with a toasty brioche finish.
A Champagne-like sparkler that you can afford to keep in the fridge for surprise occasions or even Sunday mimosas!

Now - On To The Show...

Paul Jeune
The Wines of Paul Jeune - The Domaine de Monpertuis has been in the hands of the Jeune family for several generations. Each successor has added bits and pieces of vineyards to the expanding whole of the estate so that the current owner, Paul Jeune, is now the proprietor of 10 acres of vines that are scattered amongst 32 separate parcels throughout the confines of Chateauneuf du Pape. This Friday we are proud to share three of his reds. We're so familiar with the first two Cotes-du-Rhones, we figured we should really A-B-C them with their flagship Chateauneuf-du-Pape! This is going to be fun...

Domaine La Manarine Cotes du Rhone 2007 $15

This is a 100% Grenache Noir red made by the talented young winemaker Gilles Gasq, an apprentice of Paul Jeune at Domaine Montpertuis. This "petite" domaine was created by Gilles in April 2001 at the urging of his mentor - after working at Montpertuis for years, Gilles mentioned that his family grew a plot of Grenache on a splendid plateau northeast of Orange which they sold off to winemakers for blending. Paul Jeune inspected the vineyards and declared they should be bottling their own wine!

Domaine Monpertuis Cotes du Rhone
"Vignoble de la Ramiere" 2008 $16

Hand-harvested from vineyards just across the river from Chateauneuf du Pape, this wine is built on the back of Grenache and carries the subtle spice and sophisticated structure of this noble grape. Highly aromatic with the bramble of the garrigue, the fruit is sweet and the tannins are grainy. A classic expression of the tenacious and satisfying wines that have made the formidable reputation of this zone.

Domaine Monpertuis Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007 $50

A brilliant wine that displays a grace and finesse that tames its inherent power, the product of a rigorous selection from a series of small parcels in the heart of Chateauneuf du Pape. Paul Jeune has the confidence, the talent, and the superbly sited vineyards to permit each vintage to express its character. Gorgeous and approachable for a young Chateauneuf, with a remarkable ability to age and develop. Silky and fine with a stunning elegance that gives expression to plum-like fruit and spice-driven flavors. Outstanding. We're going to crack a single bottle at 6pm so get here early!
Luck Of The Irish!

Adrahan Cheese
Expert Cheese Maker
Mary Burns

If your not at all familiar with Irish cheeses, you will be quite pleased with the Ardrahan.

A semi-firm, cow's-milk cheese made in County Cork by cheesemaker Mary Burns, Ardrahan was born out of a desire of Mary and her family to eat higher-quality dairy products.

The lush pasture land of Kanturk in Duhallow, Co Cork is a region well noted for its quality grass and clean environment. This is the land where the herd of cows that produce the milk for Ardrahan dairy products, graze happily. And the cheese made from the milk, Ardrahan Farmhouse Cheese reflects that unique flavor.

A type of semi-soft cheese with a pungent aroma, Ardrahan has a buttery textured honey-colored center with a complex delicate flavor that lingers, leaving a very pleasant after-taste.

It has a washed rind, which grows into a golden color, and its size and weight tend to vary slightly due to the fact that it is a hand-made product.

Ardrahan Farmhouse is "great with anything remotely alcoholic," the Burns family recommends a full-bodied Shiraz, Sancerre or Port. Of course, Irish whiskey would be a natural pairing as well - we have them all - Happy St. Patty's Day!

In Stock:

Cashel Blue:
This wonderful farmhouse blue cheese hails from Tipperary. Using only fresh cows milk from their fresian herd, Louis and Jane Grubb have produced this masterpiece. Ideal for melting or after dinner with some port. (8 oz.)

Dubliner tastes of a mature Cheddar, with the sweet aftertaste of Reggiano. Created by the Irish company Kerrygold and named after Ireland's capital city, this cheese shares traits with several well-known cheeses, but the combination creates a flavor that is completely unique. (8 oz.)

Cahill Farm Cheddar with Porter Ale is a visually intriguing cheese. Mixed with dark porter ale during the cheesemaking process, this cheese has a marbled effect with dark brown veins. Imported from Ireland, it has a surprising meaty flavor and is obviously a perfect match for ale. (8 oz.)
