We are a little late this week - so I will be brief.

• This week in New London has been busy - even "Hollywood" has come to town.
The cast and crew of The Bronx is Burning has been everywhere. Maybe you have seen their lights, cameras and action as they have transformed parts of New London into 1970's New York. A great bunch of folks that have been in and out of the store all week - thank you.

Coincidentally - We happened to have dinner with a few friends in Westbrook a few nights ago. One of the guests happened to be a senior member of Connecticut's Film Commission based in Hartford. He said that film companies love New London - "it's authentic"- he said. And he said that we can expect more productions to visit our fair city.... Are you ready for your close-up?

• This Tuesday - 9/26 - Boston's Formaggio Kitchen is holding a sold out evening showing how to make the perfect match with wine and cheese.
This is the first of several classes they will present here in New London. Reserve early and keep an eye on our calendar of events for the next sessions.

• October Dinner reservations are now being accepted. TWO - that's right - TWO separate evenings to choose from during the week.
By popular request we will be featuring the food and wine of Italy and Germany. What's better on a chilled October evening than Sauerbraten and the wines of Germany? Only one thing - a chilled October evening and Pasta Bolognese and the wines of Italy. - Lots more information will be on the calendar of events page. And remember you can Email your reservations as long as you include a contact phone number.

THIS WEEK AT BRIE & BLEU -
The featured cheese of the week is MIdnight Moon.
This is what Colleen has to say about Midnight Moon

Midnight Moon is the featured cheese at Brie & Blue this week at $21/lb. Midnight Moon is a goat's milk cheese from Cypress Grove Chèvre, California. Aged one year, this firm cheese offers loads of flavor, including a hint of salted caramel. Intriguing and addictive, it is essentially a goat's milk gouda. Named "Best New Product in Show" at the 2002 Fancy Food show. Cypress Grove Chèvre has been a leader in the domestic goat cheese industry since the early 80's. Serve with crusty bread and dried fruit for dessert or snacks. In grilled sandwiches, over onion soup and other gratins. Pair with Silverstone Sauvignon Blanc for an additional 10% off the cheese. The wine can be purchased at Thames River Wine and Spirits.
Cheers,
Colleen (aka Mrs. Z)

WINE TASTING PLEASE JOIN US
Friday October 29 - 6-9 p.m. - No Charge

1 - Domaine Phillipe Tessier Cour-Cheverny - $16
This honeyed bundle of pleasure is all you need to put smiles on your friends’ and families’ faces and forever seal the fact that you are a certifiable wine geek. These vines are thought to have been grown here since the time of Francois I (a long time ago), and the wines have historically been highly regarded by the Noble Folk that used to live in all those big châteaux. This appellation is tiny (46 hectares) compared to say the Cotes du Rhone (42,000 hectares), and the production that leaves the region is miniscule. We are lucky to have obtained this wine, and are pleased to offer it to you. Tessier has just converted the domaine to totally organic viticulture, too! Try it on Friday.

2 - Primis Red Table Wine - Puglia Italy - $9
"Grapely" enjoyable and extremely velvety. This bargain of a red is very deep red color almost black, with the flavorful taste of red grapes. Food pairings suggested: rich tasting dishes such as oven-cooked pasta, hearty stews or grilled meats, it is excellent also with grilled fish. Thats right red wine with fish - live a little - take a chance - show your friends and family what your really made of.

3 - Hedges CMS - 2004 - Washington - $14 - http://www.hedgesfamilyestate.com/
CMS Red is structured yet approachable with soft fruit flavors framed by subtle hints of oak. This Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah blend is a fantastic compliment to almost any food and is the perfect introduction to the enjoyment of red wine.

4 - E.Guigal - Gigondas 2003 - $24
This is a Classic Rhône, with beautiful black pepper and spice character framing plum, cherry and anise flavors, ripe, intense and elegant at the same time. A real mouthful. Very aromatic and fruity. If you ever dream of sitting in a Parisian bistro - acting slightly mysterious and looking painfully chic - (you know who you are) - this would be the bottle of wine on your table. Try it with us on Friday - beret is optional.

Thanks for all of your calls and comments this week - and for making it so much fun.

We'll see you - On Location.
