• Dave's Fave
Monday Wine Tasting - No Charge
Dave says:
Cantina Parroco Barbera d'Alba $16
"This rustic, affordable Barbera is a bottle I've been enjoying all summer. I love this wine. I lurve it. I blurve this wine. This is one of those treasures that we always are seeking out - made traditionally, in this case by Italians for Italians, and by a small co-op of farmers and wine artisans. I sip this and marvel at how well it was made, with pleasant spices mingling with dark fruit, a long finish, and some smokiness. If you come in Monday afternoon maybe we can dwell on it together, this is truly one of my personal favorites."

Friday September 14 - 6-9 p.m. - No Charge

1 - Clos du Tue-Boeuf Cheverny 2005 $15
This is one of the most affordable and drinkable wines that we have had all summer. It is currently a staff favorite and we have all be drinking it with great abandon. Sauvignon Blanc from one of the lesser known villages of the Loire. This wine has all of the lime zest and minerality you would expect from Sancerre or Pouilly Fume at $8-$10 a bottle less. Organic and Biodynamic this wine is bottled unfiltered and has a slight cloudiness that adds to it's character and charm. Please try this on Friday night - it will find a place in your heart from the first sip.

2 - Thierry et Pascale Matrot Meursault 2005 $17 -(half bottles 375ml)
This White burgundy from the great 2005 vintage was rated 86 points by Wine & Spirits Magazine. Wine matures faster in smaller bottles so the 375 ml should give us some insight into where this great vintage will take us. This wine has a bright citrus nose and a lip-smacking crispness that is wonderful with food - and the small bottles are fun.

3 - Donna Laura Sangiovese di Toscana "Ali" 2004 $12
Very approachable and forward little sangiovese from Tuscany. A blend of two clones, one providing fruit the other structure. The wine captures terroir, yet is lush and affordable. This wine has aromas of juicy red berry fruit. Medium-bodied and soft on the palate, with balanced acidity and ripe tannins. Delicious with pastas and grilled meats, yet also very drinkable without food -

4 - Bogel Phantom 2004 $24
We have just one case of this wine -
People that have discovered this wine, wait for it all year long.
Here are the winemaker's notes for this vintage:
"The black magic is back…Phantom. Three unique varietals combine lush berry and fierce spice into a full-bodied wine. Intensely fruit forward on the entry, this deep ruby apparition begins with aromas of blueberries, violets and chocolate-covered cherries, dusted with touches of black pepper. From the deep dark depths, subtle notes of spice, clove and mocha emerge and compliment the concentrated fruit characters of this wine. Aging for two years in 1, 2 and 3 year-old American oak barrels has yielded a vexing array of toasty oak aromas to Phantom. Though this wine is remarkable now, age in the bottle will only integrate the three distinct varietals more. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes again."

We hope to see you this week. Thanks for all of the emails, comments, suggestions, and for your support. We appreciate it.
