• The Restaurant du Village, in Chester, does not serve lunch as a rule. And everyone knows it.
That's why when the phone rang recently and the voice on the other end of the line, complete with a french accent that was straight from "central casting", was inviting us to have lunch - My response was - "Who Is This?"
Just before I hung up the phone the caller said something interesting -
"The vineyard owner from Mas De Daumas Gassac will be here - they have asked that you be invited."
Free lunch? - "We would be delighted." I said.
We are featuring this wine on Friday - Please join us.
We have a great tasting planned for Friday - to see all of the wines just scroll down below the news and other information.

This Week at Brie & Bleu -
Colleen McNerney has selected a very interesting cheese this week.
The featured cheese for the week is Crater Lake Blue, which is a cow's milk. Crater Lake Blue is the most robust blue cheese made by Rogue Creamery in Central Point, Oregon. It is a complex blend of molds from Rogue Creamery, as well as Roquefort and Danish Blue recipes. The vibrant blue-green color of Crater Lake is mirrored in the veins of this blue. The depth of flavor is rich and bold with a sweet and buttery finish. The cheese is usually $19/lb but is $17/lb this week at Brei and Bleu. The cheese pairs well with a white port wine such as Porto Quinta Santa Eufemia. The port is available at Thames Wine and Spirits - enjoy an additional 10% off the cheese when purchased at the same time as the port.
BEER ME DADDY!
Beer tasting - Thursday July 13 - 5-8 p.m. - No Charge.
Kristin Weber is featuring the following beer - in our cellar on Thursday night.
Please stop in and try them.
Tetley's English Ale- $6/4pk
From North Yorkshire, the aroma is a combination of sweet grainy malts, mild herbal English hop. Taste is smooth, yet very flavorful. Sweet english malts are paired with a very full leafy hop and slightly musky caramel. It's a nitro...
Kronenbourg 1664- $8/6pk
France's answer to Heineken. Light, very good for the summer, and it's French. what could be better?
Chimay Cinq Cents- $9/1pt 9.4fl.oz
A white beer from Baileux, Belgium. This contains large honey, spices, citrus, and perhaps some fruit flavors. This is an excellent beer
Old Peculiar- $9.50/6pk
Very strong malt and chocolate, and very fizzy. Mmmmmm.....chocolate malt.
Wine Tasting Friday July 14 - 6.p.m. - No Charge
1 - Valdesil - Galicia Spain- $10
The wine producing region of Valdeoras lies in Spain’s northwest corner in the region of Galicia. Much of Valdeoras lies just north of Portugal.
As is the story with much of viticultural Europe, vines are thought to have been first planted in Galicia by the conquering Romans who brought vines with them from the East. A delicate aroma of apricots is followed in the mouth by smooth, glyceriny, peachy flavours and an agreeably clean finish.
2 - Miguel Torres - Santa Digna - Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé - $9 - http://www.torres.es/eng/asp/index.asp
Compared to more traditional rosés, the Chilean Santa Digna is a wine of unmistakable personality: original, young and nonconformist. Its stylish charm is the result of careful vinification of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety, during which only a short contact is allowed between grape skins and juice. Delicious with cured sausages, meat pies and many pasta dishes. The perfect wine for sweet-and-sour Chinese dishes.
3 - Domaine de Monpertuis - Cotes du Rhone - 2004 - $16
The Domaine de Monpertuis has been in the hands of the Jeune family for several generations. Jeune has the remarkable good fortune of having a majority of the vineyards planted to vines between 60 and 110 years of age. The remaining vineyards generally are between 20 and 60 years old. Everything is hand picked. Dark red. Baked cherry, chocolate and spices on the nose. Broad and rich but juicy, with mouthcoating flavors of cherry, raspberry, pepper and spices - as we like to say - Yummy.
4 - Mas De Daumas Gassac - 2004 - $40 http://www.daumas-gassac.com/us/bienvenue.php
This is the wine that is known as "The Grand Cru Of The Languedoc"
It was fabulous when we had it at the Restaurant Du Village - and it has been praised by virtually every important critic in the wine business.
For example - Robert Parker calls it "Exceptional" - "One of the Ten Best Wines In The World" - Michael Broadbent
It will age gracefully for 20 years with no problem - We know this first hand - because we recently had the good fortune of opening a bottle of 1986 at a friends house. - (Thank you Hank). Take the time to stop by this Friday and try this wine - it will knock your socks off.
Thanks again for all of your support - we really appreciate it.
